the receivers on this type rifle is very much like the Gewehr98 in shape, style, and unlike the later small ring Kar98a, and it does have the "Kar.98" siderail. However we can eliminate several things, not a Kar98a as John is el righto the Kar98a was made from 1907-1918 only the Gewehr98 (Erfurt did make the Gewehr98 in 1904) would have the siderail "Gew.98" so what does that leave?Īs its not a Mauser Oberndorf it can't be commercial production and the only 1904 Erfurt production it can be is an "original" Kar98 (the predecessor to the Kar98a), the true short carabiner, though this suggestion means only the receiver is such as the barrel is incorrect for this variation. Hard to say with such a convoluted description? Original unlikely.
